Bridge

A bridge is a dental restoration that replaces one or more missing teeth. It is made up of two crowns, one for each of the teeth on either side of the gap, and a pontic, which is the artificial tooth that fills the gap. The crowns and pontic are held together by metal or ceramic connectors.

Bridges can be made of a variety of materials, including metal, porcelain, and composite resin. Metal bridges are the most durable, but they can be visible under the gums. Porcelain bridges are more natural-looking, but they are not as strong as metal bridges. Composite resin bridges are the least expensive option, but they are also the least durable.

Bridges are a good option for people who are missing one or more teeth. They can help to improve chewing function, speech, and appearance. However, bridges require good oral hygiene to prevent plaque buildup and gum disease.

Here are some of the advantages and disadvantages of bridges:

Advantages:

  • Bridges can replace missing teeth and restore chewing function.
  • They can improve speech and appearance.
  • They are a permanent solution to missing teeth.
